For transferring microbial colonies from one nutrient plate to others. The petri dish containing the colonies is inverted and lowered into contact with the velveteen, then removed. When fresh petri dishes, perhaps supplemented with antibiotics or lacking certain metabolites, are brought into contact with the velveteen, colonies are seeded onto the surface in the same pattern as the source plate.
Disinfect between uses by rinsing briefly with alcohol or 1:200 chlorine bleach. Designed for use with petri dishes from 90 mm to 100 mm. Dimensions: ring is 102 mm diameter; PVC cylinder is 69 mm high. Includes one bag of 12 velveteen squares.
Application
Sterile cotton velveteen square (150 × 150 mm) is draped over a solid PVC cylinder and locked in place with an aluminum ring.
