General description

Cobalt(II) nitrate hexahydrate (Co(NO3)2·6H2O) is the hydrated cobalt salt. Its step-wise thermal degradation has been investigated. It affords anhydrous cobalt(II)nitrate as decomposition product.[1]

Application

Cobalt(II) nitrate hexahydrate may be used in the preparation of the following complexes (bz = benzimidazole, abz = albendazole, ntb = tris(2-benzimidazolylmethyl)amine, 2ab = 2-aminobenzimidazole):
  • dinitratobis-(triphenylarsine oxide)-cobalt(II) complex[2]
  • [Co(bz)2(NO3)2].0.5EtOH[3]
  • [Co(abz)2(NO3)2].2.5H2O[3]
  • [Co(ntb)NO3]NO3.H2O[3]
