General description

Thermal decomposition of iron(III) nitrate nonahydrate has been reported. Fe2O3 was obtained as the major decomposition product at 523K.

Application

Iron(III) nitrate nonahydrate may be employed as an inorganic precursor for the preparation of iron(III)-doped titania nanoparticles by modified sol-gel method. Ferric nitrate nonahydrate supported on silica may be used for the preparation of benzils.
