General description

Substance P is a tachykinin family neuropeptide that functions as a neurotransmitter and neuromodulator. In the CNS, Substance P is involved in the regulation of mood, anxiety, sleep, saiety, reinforcement, respiratory rhythm and pain processing. In nociception, the neuropeptide is released at local spinal cord synapse. Recent research now shows substance P is potentially involved in endothelial cell differentiation as well as diverse roles in neuroinflammatory response. The endogenous receptor for Substance P is neurokinin 1 receptor (NK1 receptor), which belongs to the tachykinin receptor sub-family of GPCRs.

Substance P (SP), neurokinin-1 receptors (NK-1Rs) are expressed in mesenteric preadipocytes and SP binding activates proinflammatory signalling in these cells. We evaluated the expression levels of SP (Tac-1), NK-1R (Tacr-1), and NK-2R (Tacr-2) mRNA in preadipocytes isolated from patients with

The pathophysiology and mechanisms driving the generation of unintended pain after total disc replacement (TDR) remain unexplored. Ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) wear debris from TDRs is known to induce inflammation, which may result in pain. The purpose of this study was
