General description

A cell-permeable polyketide that displays potent anti-tumor properties in eukaryotes. Originally identified as a metabolite from the myxobacterium Sorangium cellulosum for its antibiotic activities against yeast and filamentous fungi. Ratjadones act by inhibiting nuclear export of LR-NES (leucine rich-nuclear export signal)-containing proteins by covalently binding to CRM1. Inhibits proliferation (IC50 ≤1 ng/ml) and induces cell cycle arrest at the G1 phase.
