General description

Scandium(III) oxide is a high-melting rare earth oxide that can be used as a catalyst in the dehydration of terminal diols. Furthermore, it is used as a starting material for the preparation of other scandium compounds.

Application

Scandium(III) oxide can be used as a catalyst for the dehydration of amino alcohols to unsaturated amines. It can also be used as a precursor to prepare scandium(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate, which can be used to catalyze the nitration of aromatic compounds.
Suitable for vacuum deposition applications
