General description

Potassium ferricyanide(III) is a salt widely employed as an external indicator in potassium dichromate titrations. A sensor containing potassium ferricyanide assisted enzyme electrode for estimating maltose and glucose in aqueous samples has been reported. The addition of potassium ferricyanide in the catholyte can improve the generation of power in microbial fuel cells (MFCs).

Application

Potassium ferricyanide(III) can be used:
  • In the preparation of RAFT agent (used in RAFT polymerization) named 4-cyanopentanoic acid diselenobenzoate (RAFT-Se).
  • As an oxidant in chemiluminescence reaction of anti-hypertensive drugs.
  • As a component of the electrolyte solution for the cyclic voltammetry studies of phospholipid bilayers.
