General description

OMI® purifier tubes simultaneously remove oxygen, water vapor, CO, CO2, most sulfur compounds, most halogen compounds, alcohols, phenols to less than 10ppb. They also purify helium, hydrogen, nitrogen, argon and methane. Color change indicates purifier exhaustion. Glass body does not diffuse air or off-gas. Furthermore, they are ideal for Hall, ECD and GC/MS detection systems.
The OMI is a polishing purifier that removes many contaminants that other upstream purifiers miss. It will simultaneously and irreversibly remove moisture, oxygen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, most sulfur compounds, most halogen compounds, alcohols, and phenols to less than 10 ppb. It is recommended that an OMI be installed in carrier gas streams just upstream of every GC. It consists of two components:
  • A re-useable tube holder that is installed into the gas delivery system. The use of polycarbonate provides see-through capability along with safety.
  • A purifier tube containing an indicating resin (changes color from black to brown when exposed to as little as 1 ppm of moisture or oxygen). The use of glass provides see-through capability and prevents diffusion of room contaminants into the gas stream.

Spent purifier tubes are easily replaced. Simply unscrew the end assembly from the tube holder and replace it with a new purifier tube. The design prevents room air from entering the new tube during installation (protective foil covers on each end are only pierced as the end assembly is screwed back onto the tube holder to complete installation).

Note: This item requires a re-useable tube holder (purchased separately).

    1. The amount of resin in the tube is five grams. The packing is not measured by volume, though the tube itself is a 15 cc tube.

    1. The rapid color change will indicate potential problems in the purification system. If the change is relatively rapid, the bulk purifier is spent, the carrier gas is contaminated, or there is a leak in the system somewhere upstream.

      2. The OMI® Purifier Tube can be connected to 1/8" tubing. For 1/4" tubing, use 1/4" to 1/8" Swagelock® reducer (brass - Cat. No 2-1516, or stainless steel - Cat. No 2-1517).

    1. The product number 23906 OMI® Purifier Tube does not have a product number on the aluminum foil bag due to the use of multiple products with this type of bag. To ensure that the correct product is received, customers are advised to open the aluminum bag to find the glass tube labeled OMI-2 23906. This is done to prevent damage during shipment and to avoid any reactions due to exposure to oxygen.

  4. Hi, I was wondering if there is a maximum flow rate and pressure rating for the OMI® Purifier Tube filters/holders?

    1. The operational line pressure must not exceed 150 psi. Flow should not exceed 300 mL/min for OMI-2.
