General description
Application
NGF-β from rat is used for the following applications:
- In the preparation of DMEM medium (for the cultivation and differentiation of PC12 cells)[4][5]
- Western blotting analysis[6]
- For the preparation of differentiation medium (it is prepared from DMEM, in which NGF-β is one of the components)[7]
- In cell culture and treatment (for neuronal differentiation)[8]
- In the preparation of stock solution[9]
Biochem/physiol Actions
NGFβ (nerve growth factor β) is essential for the differentiation and survival of neurons. It also plays a key role in the development and maintenance of nervous system. It is also involved in angiogenesis, and facilitates tumorigenesis such as, oral, breast and prostate cancers.[3] It has potential as marker for the diagnosis of interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome (IC/PBS) and overactive bladder (OAB), and might also aid in determining the therapy for the same.[1] It might be involved in changes in placental function, as NGF signaling is influenced by antenatal depression and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) treatment.[2]
