General description

Tetrapentylammonium bromide is a quaternary ammonium bromide, with pentyl chains and a bromide counter-ion, which is widely used as an ion-pair reagent in analytical applications.

Application

Tetrapentylammonium bromide may be used as a standard, to examine the effects of annealing membranes formed by mixture-casting ”Nafion” mainly based on the selectivity, ion-exchange capacity, and mass transport in the membranes. It may also be used as an ion pair reagent in the analysis of antioxidant phenolic compounds in wines, juices using two-dimensional liquid chromatography and sulfonated lignins in agrochemical formulations using one-, two-dimensional liquid chromatography techniques.

Other Notes

Additive used in ion-pair chromatography; Induces longer retention times than does the tetrabutyl homologue
