Phenol-red broth (base) 1.10987 is used to evaluate the ability of micro-organisms to cause fermentation of a given reactant. The datasheet below mentions all the reactants that can be used in conjunction with this medium to perform the test:
Additionally phenol red can be added for a better visualization of the pH change during reaction. The corresponding reference is also mentioned in the datasheet.
Also note that in case of anaerobic conditions, it is sometimes best to also add as another supplement agar-agar, again referred to in the documentation.
