Application

Benzamidine was used in the preparation of heparan sulfate-rich proteoglycan from mouse mammary epithelial cells[1]. It has been used to prevent enzymatic degradation during the purification procedure of bovine factor XII (Hageman factor)[2].

Biochem/physiol Actions

Benzamidine is an inhibitor of plasmin and has been used in the radioimmunoassay of glucagon in human plasma[3]. It prevents the destruction of Thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) added to whole blood in vitro before radioimmunoassay of TRH[4].

Several focal adhesion proteins are known to cooperate with integrins to link the extracellular matrix to the actin cytoskeleton; as a result, many intracellular signaling pathways are activated and several focal adhesion complexes are formed. However, how these proteins function

The receptor-tyrosine kinase (RTK)/Ras/Raf pathway is an essential cascade for mediating growth factor signaling. It is abnormally overactive in almost all human cancers. The downstream targets of the pathway are members of the extracellular regulated kinases (Erk1/2) family, suggesting that

  2. What is the solution stability of Benzamidine, Product 12072?

    1 answer
    1. Sigma-Aldrich does not perform formal solution stability testing on this material; however, it is expected to be sensitive to oxidation. It is recommended to prepare solutions fresh for each use.

      Helpful?

  3. What solvents can be used to dissolve Benzamidine, Product 12072?

    1 answer
    1. Based on our experience with this compound in quality control, we would expect it to be soluble in methanol (0.5g in 10mL of methanol).

      Helpful?

  4. The buffer preparation protocol calls for benzamidine. Should I use the free base or the hydrochloride hydrate salt?

    1 answer
    1. It is possible that either the benzamidine or the benzamidine hydrochloride hydrate could work for your application. The major difference will be that the benzamidine hydrochloride hydrate (Product No. B6506) is expected to dissolve easier in aqueous solutions. Neither Product 12072 nor the salt Product B5606 is molecular biology, cell culture or biotechnology certified, so their performance once dissolved is likely to be similar.
