General description

The Gastrin-I Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA) Kit is an in vitro quantitative assay for detecting Gastrin-I peptide based on the principle of Competitive Enzyme Immunoassay.
Gastrin is a peptide hormone released in gastrointestinal region of the body.[1][2] It is specifically produced by the G-cells in stomach and duodenum.[2] During embryogenesis, gastrin secretion is observed only in the pancreas.[3] Gastrin is also localized to the renal tubules.[2] The GAST gene is mapped to human chromosome 17q21.2.[4]

Gastrin EIA Kit has been used to estimate the levels of gastrin hormone in plasma or serum sample.[5]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Gastrin is responsible for epithelial cell proliferation and differentiation. Gastrin regulates the action of parietal cells in secretion of gastric acid and growth factors essential for stomach maintenance.[1] Gastrin maintains sodium ion homeostasis and controls body′s blood pressure.[2] Hypoxial conditions in in vitro and in vivo analysis may elevate the expression of gastrin hormone in cancer cells in order to promote angiogenesis.[6]
