Questions

  1. Would like to request test method for Ninhydrin Spray Reagent(N1286)

    1 answer
    1. This reagent is suitable for the detection of primary and secondary amines, as well as ammonia. This product can be used for the visualization of these compounds adsorbed to the surface of a porous material such as the stationary phase of a TLC plate or paper. If dipped in the reagent, excess reagent solution should be absorbed from the plate or paper using a paper towel. When used as a spray, the reagent solution should be applied evenly using a TLC reagent sprayer.

After application, the plate or paper should be heated gently using a hot plate or heat gun until color develops. The complexes formed by ninhydrin can vary in color depending on the nature of the reacting amine, with yellow, orange, pink, red, and purple all indicating the presence of an amine-containing compound.
