Cell Line Description
The hepatocyte cell line Hepa-E1 was derived from water eel. The cells show no contact inhibition and have been reported to show apoptosis in the presence of actinomycin D, humic acid or TGF-β 1. Normal culture conditions are at 26-28°C, but maintenance at 4°C for up to 400 days was described as well.
Culture Medium
E-RDF (Kyokuto Pharmaceuticals)+ 2mM Glutamine + 5% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
Subculture Routine
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:4 to 1:8 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA 26-28°C.
