General description

Hexadecyltrimethylammonium p-toluenesulfonate is a catatonic surfactant capable of forming wormlike micelles.

Application

Hexadecyltrimethylammonium p-toluenesulfonate has been used in a study to develop a silica grafted polydentate copper (II) complex. It has also been used in a study to investigate the dispersibility and bundle defoliation of single-walled carbon nanotubes.

Vesicles formed from the cationic surfactant, cetyltrimethylammonium tosylate (CTAT) and the anionic surfactant, sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS), were used to sequester the anionic dye carboxyfluorescein. Carboxyfluorescein was efficiently sequestered in CTAT-rich vesicles via two mechanisms: encapsulation in the inner water pool
