Benzyldodecyldimethylammonium bromide is a cationic surfactant that may be used as an adsorbent for certain metals such as Cr(VI).
Application
Benzyldodecyldimethylammonium bromide has been used in a study to assess the relation between chemical structure and germicidal efficacy in surface-active cations. It has also been used in a study to investigate pore size control during the synthesis of macroporous thermosensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) hydrogels.

Macroporous thermosensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) hydrogels were synthesized in the presence of dodecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium bromide (DDBAB). Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) was involved to control the pore size of the hydrogels. The morphology of the resulting hydrogels was studied by both an

Ophthalmic preparations can induce conjunctival toxicity, often caused by preservatives. The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro cytotoxicity of quaternary ammonium. Cytotoxicity tests were done on a continuous human conjunctival cell line using microplate cold light cytofluorimetry.
