Description

General description

1-Methyl-2-pyrrolidinone, a tertiary amide,[1] is widely employed as an organic solvent.[2] It participates in the sonochemical synthesis of high quality MOF(Metal-Organic Framework)-177 crystals.[3]
It also participates in the following:[1]

• synthesis of cyanotrimethylsilane
• decarbonylation of aldehydes
• reduction of benzaldehydes and ketones to the corresponding alcohols
• preparation of natural products

Application

1-Methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP) has been used as a solvent to study the dispersion ability of acrylate polymers for graphene.[2] It has also been used for the fabrication of working electrodes for electrochemical measurements in a study.[4]
