General description

Cellulase includes endo-β-1,4 glucanase, cellobiohydrolase, and β-D-glucosidase. It is commonly produced by bacteria and fungi.

Application

CELLULYSIN® Cellulase, Trichoderma viride has been used:
  • to digest transgenic BY-2 cells exposed to paraformaldehyde fixation
  • in the enzyme mix used for in situ hybridization to plant chromosomes
  • in the enzyme solution for the transformation of Phytophthora species
  • to isolate intact cells and protoplasts from plant tissues

Biochem/physiol Actions

Cellulase is useful in food, feed, textile, leather, detergent, and paper industries. It is also applied in fiber modification, biomass fermentation, and pharmaceutical industries.

Warning

Toxicity: Harmful (C)

Unit Definition

One unit is a measure of decomposing activity using a filter paper substrate at 40°C, pH 4.0.

Reconstitution

Following reconstitution, aliquot and freeze (-20°C) for long term storage or refrigerate (4°C) for short term storage. Stock solutions are stable for up to 3 days at 4°C or for up to 1 month at -20°C.
