Application

Precolumn derivatization reagent for primary amines and amino acids. The fluorescent derivative can be detected by reverse-phase HPLC. The reaction requires OPA, primary amine and a sulfhydryl. In the presence of excess sulfhydryl, amines can be quantitated. In the presence of excess amine, sulfhydryls can be quantitated.

Other Notes

Contains 1 mg o-phthaldialdehyde (P0657) per mL solution with 2-mercaptoethanol as the sulfhydryl moiety.

Questions

1–6 of 6 Questions
  1. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. 1) What type of container this reagent stored at when you supply? 2) After I use for the first time, can you pls explain about proper storing? Should I purge inside the container with N2 gas? or just keep the bottle in N2 environment?

    1 answer
    1. 1. Phthaldialdehyde Reagent is provided in an amber glass bottle.
      2. Work under a fume hood. Do not inhale substance/mixture. Avoid generation of vapours/aerosols. Store in a tightly closed. Keep it in a well-ventilated place.
      3. To store under inert gas, open the cap and then direct a gentle stream of nitrogen or argon gas down into the vial for a few seconds. Closely tightly and store at t 2–8 °C.

  4. Can you please explain about the stability of the reagent? When I open the bottle during derivatization time, should I maintain inert environment too?

    1 answer
    1. Special care should be taken to ensure the product is maintained in an inert atmosphere (nitrogen or argon) at 2–8 °C since improper storage or handling conditions may render the solution ineffective. Please review the product information sheet for more details.

  5. 이 시약이 HPLC 에 사용될 수 있나요 ?? 등급이 따로 기재되어 있지 않아서 문의드립니다.

    1 answer
    1. While the grade of the Phthaldialdehyde Reagent is not listed, it is used for the pre-column derivatization of primary amines and amino acids for HPLC analysis. So this reagent can be used in HPLC analysis.

      Helpful?

  6. I would like to ask if this is a readu-to-use reagent for amino acid derivatization purposes or if it needs further mixing with other reagents, e.g. mercaptoethanol and so on.

    1 answer
    1. This product already contains mercaptoethanol and other reagents, as can be seen on the SDS. It is ready to use. Please see the product information sheet for more information around storage and use: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/product/documents/326/300/p0532dat.pdf.
