Poly(glycerol sebacate) (PGS) is a biodegradable polymer with tunable mechanical properties that can be used in soft tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. It is non-immunogenic, non-cytotoxic and has minimal inflammatory response. The polymer backbone and crosslinks can undergo hydrolytic degradation due to the presence of ester linkages. The ester bonds in the polymer backbone covalently crosslink at high temperature (>130 °C) under vacuum without using any toxic crosslinkers to form a three-dimensional (3D) network of random coils.
