Gene Information

human ... IPO5(3843)

General description

Importin 5 (IPO5) is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 13q32.2. The encoded protein belongs to the importin β family. It is primarily expressed in cytoplasm, specifically in the nuclear pore complex.

Application

Anti-Importin 5 (N-terminal) antibody produced in rabbit has been used in western blotting, immunoprecipitation and immunofluorescence.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Importin 5 (IPO5) in association with nucleoside triphosphates and the small GTP binding protein Ran, facilitates migration of nuclear localization signal (NLS)-containing cargo from cytoplasm to nucleus. IPO5 also plays a vital role in apolipoprotein A-1 excretion and also helps in transport of lipids from peripheral tissues via reverse cholesterol transport pathway. Additionally, the encoded protein facilitates transport of ribosomal proteins and core histones into the nucleus. Mutation in the gene is associated with the development of schizophrenia.
Importin 5 (also known as IPO5, karyopherin β-3, importin subunit β-3, KPNB3 and RANBP5) has been identified as an importin for histones and proteins L23a, S7, and L5, and also to the PB1 subunit of the influenza A virus RNA-dependent RNA polymerase.

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Human mature IL-33 is a member of the IL-1 family and a potent regulator of immunity through its pro-T helper cell 2 activity. Its precursor form, full-length interleukin-33 (FLIL33), is an intranuclear protein in many cell types, including fibroblasts, and
