General description

Molybdic acid is the hydrated form of molybdenum trioxide. It is used in the synthesis Froehde reagent.

Application

Molybdic acid can be used:
  • In the preparation of silica-supported molybdic acid catalyst for the synthesis of pyrano [2,3-c] chromene derivatives by condensation of aldehydes, malononitrile, and 4-hydroxycoumarin.
  • In the synthesis of Froehde reagent for the presumptive identification of alkaloids like opioids.
  • As a molybdenum source in the preparation of MoSe2.

Other Notes

Consists largely of an ammonium molybdate
