Application

Diphenhydramine hydrochloride has been used:
as a reference compound to study the long duration of action of antihistamine bilastine in vivo[1]
to detect its embryotoxicity by embryonic stem cell test (EST) using cardiomyocyte differentiation[2] and osteoblasts differentiation[3]
as an antihistamine in experimental studies[4][5]

Actions biochimiques/physiologiques

H1 histamine receptor antagonist
Diphenhydramine hydrochloride (DPH) is an antihistaminic agent that relieves symptoms of hypersensitive reactions.[6][7] It exhibits antimuscarinic and marked sedative effects.[8] DPH is also used to prevent nausea, vomiting and vertigo of various causes.[6] In addition, it acts as a potential therapeutic for insomnia.[7]
