General description

Phosphoethanolamine is a precursor to phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine. Dabsyl-PE carries contains a dark quencher in the headgroup.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylethanolamine controls membrane fluidity in eukaryotic cells. Phosphoethanolamine (PHOS) has the ability to repress tumour growth both in vitro and in vivo. It possesses anticarcinogenic effects. It can also prevent the mRNA expression of cyclin D1 and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1 (VEGFR1). Dabsyl-PE has the ability to quench superfolder green fluorescent protein, (SfGFP).

Nickel-chelating lipids offer a convenient platform for reversible immobilization of histidine-tagged proteins to liposome surfaces. This interaction recently found utility as a model system for studying membrane remodeling triggered by protein crowding. Despite its wide array of utility, the molecular

Membrane-protein interaction plays key roles in a wide variety of biological processes. Although various methods have been employed to measure membrane binding of soluble proteins, a robust high-throughput assay that is universally applicable to all proteins is lacking at present.

Adequate membrane fluidity is required for a variety of key cellular processes and in particular for proper function of membrane proteins. In most eukaryotic cells, membrane fluidity is known to be regulated by fatty acid desaturation and cholesterol, although some
