General description

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone produced by the placenta, used therapeutically for reproductive hormone regulation. The USP reference standard supports potency assays, identity testing, and bioassay calibration for hCG drug substances.

Also produced by trophoblast cell neoplasms, which are marked by elevated free hCG β-chains and hyperglycosylated hCG.
