Descripción general

α-Tocopherol nicotinate is a fat soluble vitamin. It is an ester of tocopherol and niacin. Niacin is linked to the hydroxyl group of active vitamin E in this ester. α-Tocopherol is a form of vitamin E, which is available through dietary sources. RRR-α-tocopherol is a natural form of α-Tocopherol.

Aplicación

(±)-α-Tocopherol nicotinate has been used in metabolic studies to assess its biological functions in rats.

Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas

α-Tocopherol is a radical-chain breaker owing to its anti-oxidant property.
Tocopherols (TCP) (vitamin E) are a series (α, β, γ and δ) of chiral organic molecules that vary in their degree of methylation of the phenol moiety of the chromanol ring. Tocopherols are lipid soluble anti-oxidants that protect cell membranes from oxidative damage. α-Tocopherol is the form of tocopherol preferentially absorbed by homo sapiens. α-Tocopherol nicotinate is used along the α-Tocopherol acetate, α-Tocopherol succinate and other esterified forms as a vitamin E supplement with similar but differential activities.
