General description

Shields and Sang M3 insect medium can support the rapid growth of both primary and established cultures of Drosophila melanogaster cells. Insect tissue culture media have been formulated to mimic the main properties of the hemolymph of specific insects.

Application

Shields and Sang M3 Insect Medium has been used:
  • for the dissection of Drosophila larvae to study the changes in the translational activity of larval wing imaginal disc cells
  • to incubate Drosophila bodies for surface sensing of translation (SUnSET) assay
  • to culture Drosophila cells for transfection studies

Developed for the culture of Drosophila cell lines.

Spermatogenesis in many species including Drosophila melanogaster is accompanied by major reorganisation of chromatin in post-meiotic stages, involving a nearly genome-wide displacement of histones by protamines, Mst77F and Protamine-like 99C. A proposed prerequisite for the histone-to-protamine transition is massive histone

Cells are highly asymmetrical, a feature that relies on the sorting of molecular constituents, including proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids, to distinct subcellular locales. The localization of RNA molecules is an important layer of gene regulation required to modulate localized

Spermatogenesis is accompanied by a remarkable reorganization of the chromatin in post-meiotic stages, characterized by a near genome-wide displacement of histones by protamines and a transient expression of transition proteins. In Drosophila, the transition-protein-like protein Tpl94D contains an HMG-box domain

Lamellipodia are broad actin-based structures that define the protruding edge of many motile animal cells. Here we identify a Drosophila homolog of the p21-activated kinases (Paks) as a novel inhibitor of Rac-mediated lamellipodial formation: Pak3 overexpression mimics a loss of
