General description

Carbol Fuchsin is a basic dye which forms a yellow-brown compound in presence of acid. It is mainly required for the staining of mycobacteria. The waxy walls of mycobacteria helps in retaining the dye within cells. It can also be used for the staining of bacterial spores.

Mixture of basic fuchsin and phenol.

    1. Product C4165 consists of approximately 90% pararosaniline to 10% phenol.  A working solution can be prepared from the powder by first dissolving 1.5 grams of the powder in 100 ml of 95% ethanol, then adding an equal volume of deionized water.
