General description

Fucoxanthin, an abundant marine xanthophyll and a type of sea-weed carotenoid, plays a key role in generating the brown pigment in brown seaweeds. It exhibits pharmacological properties including antitumor and antioxidant properties.

Application

Fucoxanthin may be used as an analytical standard for the quantification of the analyte in Undaria pinnatifida using reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) technique. Its potential as a selective anticancer agent and an active component for the anti-obesity effect in Undaria lipids is investigated.

Fucoxanthin is a marine carotenoid exhibiting several health benefits. The anti-cancer effect of fucoxanthin and its deacetylated metabolite, fucoxanthinol, is well documented. In view of its potent anti-carcinogenic activity, the need to understand the underlying mechanisms has gained prominence. Towards
