General description

DENSITY:

0.95-1.006 g/mL
Product Source: Human plasma tested negative for HBsAg and HIV-I, HIV-II, HBc and Hepatitis C antibodies. All blood products should be treated as potentially infectious.
VLDL is isolated from fresh human plasma containing EDTA and sodium citrate by sequential isopycnic ultracentrifugation at the lower and upper density limits of the specified density range (Havel et al., 1955). Density adjustments are performed with solid KBr. VLDL is washed by centrifugation at the upper density limit to ensure removal of higher density proteins.

Quality

QUALITY ASSURANCE:

Protein determination by the Pierce BCA method using 1% SDS with BSA as the standard. Purity of each preparation is verified by agarose gel electrophoresis using Fat red 7B staining for lipid (2,3).

Physical form

Liquid in 150 mM NaCl, pH 7.4 with 0.01% EDTA. Filtered to sterility using 0.2 micron filter in a sterile vial.

COMPOSITION:

88-95% lipid, 5-12% protein

Storage and Stability

Maintain at 2-8°C for up to four weeks. DO NOT FREEZE. Freezing may cause denaturation.
