Application

5α-Androstan-17β-ol-3-one, also referred to as androstanolone or dihydrotestosterone, is an anabolic steroid. Testosterone secreted by the testis is converted to dihydrotestosterone in the target tissues where it appears to mediate many of the biological actions of testosterone, including the development of the male phenotype during embryogenesis and at puberty.

Androstanolone is an anabolic steroid. Testosterone secreted by the testis is converted to dihydrotestosterone in the target tissues where it appears to mediate many of the biological actions of testosterone. Androgens direct the development of the male phenotype during embryogenesis and at puberty.

  1. Is this product suitable for inducing an animal model of androgenic alopecia?

    1. This product is not tested for inducing an animal model of androgenic alopecia. Determination of suitability must be conducted experimentally.

  2. Is it suitable to treat this in cell culture? I've already seen such recommendations.. However, the fact that it is not sterilized is a bit concerning. would it still be possible?

    1. This product has not been tested for suitability in cell culture. While the powder is not sterile, prepared stock solutions may be filter sterilized. The material is soluble at 50 mg/mL in ethanol and may be further diluted using buffer or medium. The peer-reviewed papers listed on this page reference publications the have listed this product used in a number of applications successfully. There are several in vitro and in vivo applications cited. Please see the link below to review one example publication:
