Descrizione generale

Apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) is the chief protein component of high density lipoproteins (HDL) and a major determinant of HDL structure, composition, and stability. It is an exchangeable apolipoprotein and plays pivotal role in the metabolism of cholesterol. [1]

Applicazioni

Apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) was used for protecting the heart against vascular disease, it also protects other vascular beds and organs.[2] It was protective against atherosclerosis through its ability to intervene in reverse cholesterol transport.[3]

Azioni biochim/fisiol

High-density lipoproteins are antiatherogenic and cardioprotective by facilitating reverse cholesterol transport (RCT). Some strategies for elevating apolipoprotein A-I levels are studied as therapies for atherosclerosis.

Nota sulla preparazione

lyophilized from 0.01 M ammonium hydrogen carbonate
