Descrizione generale

Amberlite IR120 is a gel-type strongly acidic cation exchange resin and a heterogeneous catalyst.[1]

Applicazioni

Amberlite IR120 has been used as a catalyst support to form chelates with Co2+ or Ru3+ ions for subsequent hydrogen generation by hydrolysis of ammonia borane.[2] It may be used as a catalyst for the oxirane ring-opening reaction effected by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) during the synthesis of epoxides from triglycerides source.[1] Amberlite IR120 hydrogen form may be used to investigate the ion-exchange equilibria of H+/Pb2+, H+/Ni2+, and H+/Cr3+ systems.[3]
Strongly acidic cation exchange resin suitable for a wide variety of chemical process applications, removal of amino acids at low pH, USP potassium methods, etc..

Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. I wonder about the stability of regenerated Amberlite and if there is any recommendation of storage solution for regenerated material or could it be stored in the regeneration solution for example.

    1 answer
    1. This material is a strongly acidic cation exchange resin and stores quite well in the regenerated form. Regeneration should take place with an acid sufficient to inhibit any possible microbial contamination. Following regeneration, rinse with several bed volumes of deionized water prior to storage. Alternatively, a final rinse/storage solution of 20% aqueous ethanol may also be used. Rinse well prior to re-use.

Do not allow the column to dry out. When rehydrated, dry resins are susceptible to bead breakage due to rapid re-swelling. Should drying occur, rehydrate with a saturated NaCl solution. The high osmotic pressure will minimize rapid re-swelling. The salt can then be removed by successive dilutions to prevent a rapid change in osmotic pressure resulting in bead breakage.
