La laccase catalyse l′oxydation de composés phénoliques, notamment la lignine, via la réduction d′oxygène en eau. La présence de médiateurs permettra aussi l′oxydation de composés non phénoliques. La fonction principale de la laccase est la dégradation de la lignine par les champignons.
