General description

Adenosine 5′-diphosphate (ADP) is an adenine nucleotide involved in energy storage and nucleic acid metabolism via its conversion into ATP by FOF1-ATP synthases. ADP can also be obtained by adenylate monophosphate (AMP) reaction catalyzed by adenylate kinase. ADP is a platelet agonist that is secreted from platelet dense granules. It promotes platelet activation through its interaction with ADP receptors P2Y1 and P2Y12. Upon conversion of ADP to adenosine by ecto-ADPases, platelet activation is inhibited via adenosine receptors.

Application

Adenosine 5′-diphosphate sodium salt has been used:
  • as a positive control of platelet aggregation to analyze antiplatelet activity of purified disintegrin by aggregometery.
  • in the preparation of stock solution for a mito stress test.
  • as a positive control in flow cytometry analysis to study the effect of pentameric C-reactive protein (pCRP) and monomeric CRP (mCRP) on the CD62p (P-selectin) expression of platelets.
  • as a platelet agonist to stimulate platelet aggregation.[1]

Questions

1–6 of 6 Questions
  1. Is product A2754 FDA approved for use in testing patient samples (Platelet aggregation/function testing) at this time?

    1 answer
    1. No, the product A2754 is not FDA approved for testing patient samples for platelet aggregation/function testing at this time.

  2. I see that the  molecular weight for Adenosine 5'-diphosphate (ADP) sodium salt, Product A2754, on the website does not include sodium, water and solvent content. Why is that?

    1 answer
    1. The amount of sodium, water and solvent for ADP sodium salt will vary from lot to lot.  The specific lot information can be found on the certificate of analysis located at our website. To obtain the "true" molecular weight (so that one can calculate the molarity of a solution), the sodium, water and solvent amount must be added to the molecular weight listed on the website.

  3. What are the spectral properties of Adenosine 5'-diphosphate (ADP) sodium salt, Product A2754?

    1 answer
    1. The millimolar extinction coefficient of a pH 7 solution of ADP sodium salt is 15.4 at the absorbance maximum wavelength of 259 nm.

  5. What is the solution stability of Adenosine 5'-diphosphate (ADP) sodium salt, Product A2754?

    1 answer
    1. ADP sodium salt is stable in solution for several months when stored at pH 7 and at -20 °C.  When a solution is stored at pH 7 and 4 °C, the solution is stable for several days. It is unstable in acid.
