General description

Aflatoxins are a group of hypertoxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi of the genus Aspergillus, mostly A. flavus, A. Parasiticus, and A. nomius. Of the 20 aflatoxins identified so far, B1, B2, G1, and G2 are the four naturally occurring aflatoxins.

Application

It is intended to be used for the calibration of analytical instruments, validation of analytical methods, determination of detection limits and linearity studies, and recovery experiments.

This aflatoxin mix 4 solution was used as follows:
  • Ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection (UHPLC-FLD) based quantification of aflatoxins— B1, B2, G1, and G2, in the coffee bean and powder samples
  • Estimation of aflatoxins (B1, B2, G1, and G2) in samples of maize, rice, sorghum meal, and peanuts by ultra high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with a fluorescence detector
  • Determination of naturally occurring aflatoxins in 65 peanut-enriched flour samples by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) combined with fluorescence detection

Supel Tox AflaZea SPE improves analyte recovery with less sample volume, while HPLC confirms effective elimination of interferences.

Analyte recovery values from spiked cannabis extracts ranged from 102 to 127% with RSD below 12% for 3 replicates. Excellent recovery values were even observed for Aflatoxins B2 and G2 which were spiked at a low level of 6.1 ppb.
