General description

Carbophenothion is an organophosphorus pesticide which is highly toxic through ingestion as well as skin absorption. It is mostly used as non-systemic insecticide and acaricide.

Application

Carbophenothion may have been used as internal standard for identification and characterisation of organochlorine and organophosphorus pesticides in Brazil′s medicinal plants like Passiflora L. using high-resolution gas chromatography with electron-capture and flame photometric detection (HRGC–ECD/FPD).

The acute toxicity (96-hr LC50) of carbophenothion, chlorpyrifos, and fenvalerate to six estuarine fishes was determined in flow-through laboratory tests. The atherinid fishes (Menidia menidia, M. peninsulae, M. beryllina, and Leuresthes tenuis) consistently were among the most sensitive species tested
