General description
C16-18:1 PC, also called as 1-O-hexadecyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (HOPC), is a member of platelet-activating factor (PAF) family of glycerophospholipids. HOPC is a mono-ether PC containing ester-linked 18:1 chain (oleoyl) at the sn-2 position and an ether-linked 16:0 chain (hexadecyl) at the sn-1 position.
Application
C16-18:1 PC or 1-O-hexadecyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine may be used in the liposome binding assay. It may also be used as a lipid standard for quantification of glycerophosphocholine by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS).
Biochem/physiol Actions
Platelet-activating factor (PAF), a lipid mediator acts as a pro-inflammatory agent that exhibits variety of biological and pharmacological effects.

The platelet-activating factor (PAF) family of glycerophospholipids accumulates in damaged brain tissue following injury. Little is known about the role of individual isoforms in regulating neuronal survival. Here, we compared the neurotoxic and neuroprotective activities of 1-O-hexadecyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (C16-PAF) and 1-O-octadecyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine

Phosphoinositides, diacylglycerolpyrophosphate, ceramide-1-phosphate, and phosphatidic acid belong to a unique class of membrane signaling lipids that contain phosphomonoesters in their headgroups having pKa values in the physiological range. The phosphomonoester headgroup of phosphatidic acid enables this lipid to act as
