General description

Die alkalische Hydrolyse von Mevalonolacton erzeugt Mevalonat. Mevalonat ist ein Vorläufer von Farnesyl- und Geranylgeranylpyrophosphaten. Diese Pyrophosphaten sind für die Proteinprenylierung erforderlich.[1]

Application

(±)-Mevalonolacton wird wie folgt verwendet:
  • zur Untersuchung der Auswirkungen von Statin auf die Prenylierung von Ras- und Rho-GTPasen[1]
  • zur Analyse der Isoprenoid-Biosynthesewege in Listeria monocytogenes
  • zur Untersuchung der Auswirkungen von Statinen auf die Proliferation und Migration von HUVECs (HGF-induzierte humane Endothelzellen der Nabelschnurvene)

  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature.   3. What chemical/s is this product soluble in for resuspension into a liquid form and at what concentration? I am wanting to add this to cell culture media.

    1. This product is soluble at a concentration of 0.5 g in 5 mL of 95% ethanol, equivalent to 100 mg/mL.

  4. Why did M4667, (±)-Mevalonolactone, arrive as a liquid?

    1. As noted on the Sigma Aldrich web page for product M4667, (±)-Mevalonolactone, this product "may also be a liquid".  The melting point for this chemical is 26-28°C, which is approximately room temperature.  Because of this, the product may arrive as a liquid, but if stored at -20°C it should return to a solid/semi-solid state.  This product does not arrive in solution and will not have a concentration value.
