Gene Information

human ... MCM2(4171)

General description

Mini chromosome maintenance protein 2 (MCM2) is a human nuclear protein. This cell-cycle regulatory protein is similar to members of the family of early S-phase proteins and is expressed in four phases of the cell cycle. MCM2 gene is mapped to human chromosome 3q21.3. MCM2 protein is a member of eukaryal MCM2–7 subunits and is expressed in the nucleus and cytoplasm of various tissues.

Immunogen

Synthetic peptide derived from internal region of human MCM2 protein.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Mini chromosome maintenance protein 2 (MCM2) is involved in regulating DNA replication, is crucial in the cell cycle. From its localization, CDCL1 is a candidate for an oncogene affected by chromosomal breaks in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). MCM-2 levels are elevated in salivary gland tumors and malignant lesions of the oral cavity. It serves as a marker for the detection of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). MCM2 overexpression also displays pro-apoptotic and apoptotic. MCM2 is also implicated in nonsyndromic hearing loss.
