General description

18:0-18:1 PS (1-stearoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-L-serine) is a sodium salt of a modified lipid which has a phosphoserine head group. This anionic lipid has asymmetric acyl chains.

Application

18:0-18:1 PS (1-stearoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-L-serine (sodium salt)) may be used:
  • in the preparation of liposomes
  • for liposome binding assays
  • to generate multilamellar phospholipid vesicles

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylserine (PtdSer) plays a key role in various intracellular signaling pathways. It also participates in apoptosis and blood clotting.

K-Ras is targeted to the plasma membrane by a C-terminal membrane anchor that comprises a farnesyl-cysteine-methyl-ester and a polybasic domain. We used quantitative spatial imaging and atomistic molecular dynamics simulations to examine molecular details of K-Ras plasma membrane binding. We
