The gene AK5 (adenylate kinase isoenzyme 5) is mapped to human chromosome 1p31. The protein localizes in the cytoplasm and is mainly present in brain.

Application

Actions biochimiques/physiologiques

Adenylate kinases (AKs) are responsible for the nucleotide phosphoryl exchange reaction and thereby control ratios of adenine nucleotide in different intracellular regions. AK5 can phosphorylate AMP (adenosine monophosphate), CMP (cytidine monophosphate), dAMP (deoxy-AMP) and dCMP using ATP or GTP as phosphate donors.
