Description générale

The gene SLC6A9 (solute carrier family 6, member 9) encodes the protein sodium- and chloride-dependent glycine transporter 1. The gene is mapped to human chromosome 1p33 and has 14 exons spanning a length of 19.8kb. It is expressed along the length of the crypt-villus axis by enterocytes.

Application

Actions biochimiques/physiologiques

The glycine transporter encoded by the gene SLC6A9 (solute carrier family 6, member 9) functions in glycine uptake in the enterocytes. Polymorphisms in this gene have been associated with human essential hypertension.
