Description générale

p63 is a transcription factor that regulates many cell activities, including cell proliferation, maintenance, differentiation, adhesion, and apoptosis.1 It has been found to be a sensitive and specific marker of myoepithelial and basal cell populations in prostate, breast, skin, and salivary gland. Additionally, p63 has also demonstrated immunohistochemical utility in identifying benign and malignant breast lesions.2 In prostatic carcinomas, it can also be used to recognize benign glands adjacent to malignant glands.3 p63 can also be used to differentiate adenocarcinoma of the lungs, where it is usually negative, from squamous cell carcinoma, which can be useful for advanced stages of the carcinoma where surgery is no longer an option.4

In this study, we sought to validate the importance of p63, CK5/CK6, CK7, and surfactant-A (SP-A) to classify 42 non-small cell lung cancers in autopsy and surgical resection specimens and to study the usefulness of these markers in distinguishing between

The p63 gene encodes six protein isoforms. The transactivating isoforms have similar actions with p53, while the N-isoforms inhibit transcription activation by p53 and transactivating isoforms. p63 is expressed in stratified epithelia and in basal cells of the prostate and

We assessed the usefulness of immunohistochemical analysis with a 3-antibody cocktail (alpha-methylacyl coenzyme A racemase [AMACR, or P504S], 34betaE12, p63) and a double-chromogen reaction for detection of limited prostate cancer in 138 needle biopsy specimens, including 82 with small foci

We describe the cloning of p63, a gene at chromosome 3q27-29 that bears strong homology to the tumor suppressor p53 and to the related gene, p73. p63 was detected in a variety of human and mouse tissues, including proliferating basal
