Description générale

Ectoderm-neural cortex protein 1 (ENC1) as its name suggests is a protein involved in the regulation and differentiation of neural crest cells and neuronal development, as well as a protein involved in neuronal process formation later on. It is also known as nuclear matrix protein NRP/B. It is an actin binding protein that appears important in the organization of the actin cytoskeleton during neural fate specification and nervous system development. Its role in neuronal process formation is via its binding of RB1 (p110RB) when it is hypophosophorylated. ENC1 is widely expressed during development in the fetal heart, lung, and kidney. In the adult ENC1 is more restricted to nervous tissues primarily. It is abundant in adult brain, hippocampus, amygdale and spinal cord. There is also expression found in the adult pancreas. Numerous neuronal cancer cell lines and primary brain tumors also express ENC1. Localization is nuclear for the most part but in some cancer cells cytoplasmic staining is also observed. Its role in tumors is as an oncogene as studies suggest that both amplification and alteration of ENC1 may lead to tumor development and growth. Moreover ENC1 plays a role in the oxidative stress response as a regulator of the transcription factor Nrf2, and expression of this gene may play a role in malignant transformation as well.

Immunogène

GST-tagged recombinant protein corresponding to human ENC-1.

Application

Anti-ENC-1 Antibody, clone 1H8.1 is a highly specific mouse monoclonal antibody, that targets Ectoderm-neural cortex-1 & has been tested in western blotting & IHC.
Western Blotting Analysis: 1 µg/mL from a representative lot detected ENC-1 in 10 µg of rat hippocampus tissue.

Immunohistochemistry Analysis: A 1:50 dilution from a representative lot detected ENC-1 in human cerebellum and cerebral cortex tissue.
