Description générale

LUDOX® TM-50 colloidal silica is an aqueous dispersion of silica particles with intermediate particle size and narrow particle size distribution.

Application

LUDOX® TM-50 colloidal silica can be used:
  • As a silica source to synthesize tetrapropylammonium(TPA)-silicate-1 colloidal particles.[1]
  • As a removable template to prepare mesoporous carbon materials by using a resorcinol-formaldehyde resin as a carbon precursor.[2]
  • As a separation layer to synthesize non-spherical flexible poly(butylacrylate) (PBA) polymer particles by concentrated emulsion polymerization.[3]

Questions

1–7 of 7 Questions
  1. What is the density of the silica nanoparticles themselves? Is there a recommended way to measure this?

    1 answer
    1. The density of the solution is 1.4 g/mL at 25 °C, but the density of the silica particles is not tested. A gas displacement pycnometer is the recommended method for testing the density

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  3. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  4. Is this solution white coloured or is it transparent? Is it suitable for using as colourant in cosmetics manufacturing?

    1 answer
    1. This product is a cloudy liquid. This product is not suitable for cosmetic manufacturing. Unless otherwise stated, this product is intended for research use only. It is unsuitable for any other purpose, including, but not limited to, unauthorized commercial use, in vitro diagnostic use, or therapeutic use in humans or animals.

  5. What is the smallest size of the silica particles?

    1 answer
    1. The Ludox products have an average particle size range of 7nm to 22nm. Please see the Ludox product comparison table below:

      Helpful?

  6. Is the density of 1.4 g/mL at 25 °C for Ludox silica nanoparticles product 420778 the density of the nanoparticles themselves or the density of the colloidal suspension?

    1 answer
    1. The density value indicated for the product 420778 represents the colloidal density, not that of the individual silica nanoparticles.

      Helpful?

  7. Is this product stabilized with some chemicals or is pure SiO2?

    1 answer
    1. This product is an aqueous dispersion of silica particles in water. There are no stabilizers or preservatives present. Please see the link below to review a sample Certificate of Analysis:
