General description

Gel filtration chromatography is an established method for determining the size and molecular mass of proteins. Fractionation is based on the diffusion of molecules into the pores of the resin. Larger proteins do not enter the pores of the resin as readily but pass through the fluid volume of the column faster than smaller proteins. These protein molecules elute from the column in order of decreasing molecular mass.

Application

Gel Filtration Markers Kit for Protein Molecular Weights 6,500-66,000 Da has been used as a standard in size exclusion chromatography.
Gel filtration markers are used in protein chromatography and gel filtration chromatography. Gel filtration markers have been used to study glucocorticoid-induced lymphocytolysis as a model system for apoptosis within the immune system. Gel filtration markers have also been used to isolate Polygonatum odoratum lectin, which showed remarkable anti-HSV-II activity towards Vero cells, cytotoxicity towards human melanoma A375 cells and induced apoptosis in a caspase-dependent manner.

There is a general need for the engineering of protein-like molecules that organize into geometrically specific superstructures on molecular surfaces, directing further functionalization to create richly textured, multilayered assemblies. Here we describe a computational approach whereby the surface properties and
