General description

Inhibin β-Subunit (also called as MSMB, microseminoprotein-β) is a cysteine-rich and nonglycosylated protein. It is one of the major components of semen.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Inhibin β-Subunit (also called as MSMB, microseminoprotein-β) is upregulated in ovarian cancer and is correlated with the levels of prostasin. Low expression of MSMB is linked with increased risk of prostate cancer. It is involved in the inhibition of FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), thereby abolishing growth-enhancing activity of FSH in prostate cancer.

The Prostate, 73(16), 1803-1809 (2013-09-17)
Recently, a genetic variant (rs10993994) in the MSMB gene associated with prostate cancer (PCa) risk was shown to correlate with reduced prostate secretory protein of 94 amino acids (PSP94) levels. Although the biological activity of PSP94 is unclear, one of

Cell death & disease, 5, e1407-e1407 (2014-09-05)
Ovarian cancer is a leading cause of cancer death as diagnosis is frequently delayed to an advanced stage. Effective biomarkers and screening strategies for early detection are urgently needed. In the current study, we identify PSP94 as a key upstream
