General description

Immunoglobulin A (IgA) is found as two subclasses, that is, IgA1 and IgA2. IgA exists as a monomer or dimer in the secreted form. Dimeric IgA has a molecular weight of 390 kDa.

Specificity

The antibody preparation is specific for human IgA when tested against purified human IgA, IgG, IgM, Bence Jones Kappa, and Bence Jones Lambda myeloma proteins

Application

Anti-Human IgA (α-chain specific) antibody produced in goat has been used to determine the concentration of total IgA in serum samples by single radial immunodiffusion and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

Biochem/physiol Actions

IgA antibody is secretory antibody and is present abundantly in mucous linings of gastrointestinal, respiratory and genitourinary tracts, tears and saliva. Thus secretory IgA contributes to the humoral defense mechanism against the pathogens on mucosal surfaces.
In addition to passive immunity, IgA also induces active immunity by regulating the production of various chemokines and vital cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin (IL)-1β.

Physical form

Goat Anti-Human IgA is supplied as a liquid containing 0.1% sodium azide as preservative.

Storage and Stability

For continuous use, store at 2-8 °C for a maximum of one month. For extended storage, the solution may be frozen in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing is not recommended. Storage in "frost-free" freezers is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use.
